Level crossing resurfacing works wrap up

The level crossing upgrades along the Loop Line between Buxton and Colo Vale are nearly complete.

With resurfacing works and line-marking now complete, new road signage is being installed in preparation for the return of heritage trains. Much of the road signage (including the stop signs) will be covered until the crossings are ‘activated’ shortly before initial train operations.

In the meantime, road users are advised to remain vigilant around Level Crossings as Loop Line project work continues.

Our thanks to the local communities in Buxton, Balmoral, Hill Top and Colo Vale for your patience while these works have taken place.

Geotechnical rectification works reach practical completion

Geotechnical remediation works to eight cuttings between Buxton and Colo Vale have reached practical completion stage.

Over 400 rock-bolts have been installed in addition to a thousand tonnes of loose or hazardous rock scaled.

With the majority of works completed, only a small amount of follow-up works remain to be completed.

Additional track works underway

A range of additional track works are underway along the entire length of the Loop Line.

Guard rails have now been installed over the Ligar St Overbridge, the buffer-stop at Colo Vale has been installed, and two SPENO defects have been removed in the Picton section through the installation of rail closures and welds. Work is now underway with spot re-railing and bolting between Balmoral and Big Hill Cutting.

Throughout the remainder of 2025 and early into the new year, THNSW will continue delivering further works, including additional track repairs at various locations, vegetation clearing and ballasting & track resurfacing.

Colo Vale Playground Open
ree

The new playground opposite Colo Vale Station was officially opened by Wingecarribee Shire Council earlier this month.

The project is an initiative of Wingecarribee Shire Council, who has a lease on the land opposite the station. The facilities include play equipment and a picnic table.

The project has been supported and facilitated by THNSW since its inception.
