Loop Line Upgrade Project: Three new pedestrian level crossings to be installed

Transport Heritage NSW will shortly commence work on the construction of three Pedestrian Level Crossings along the Loop Line.

Crossings will be installed at the following locations:

  • Thirlmere, near Gordon & Bridge Street

  • Balmoral, near Bolans Road

  • Hill Top, near the Rural Fire Service shed and carpark

The level crossings have been designed to be compliant with modern standards and feature 1.8-metre-wide paths, concrete & bitumen pavement, approach mazes, and tactile indicators on the pavement crossings.

Timber post and rail fencing will be used to help ensure the crossings are sympathetic to their heritage environs.

In addition, work will soon commence on the final stage of hazardous tree removal along the Loop Line Corridor from Colo Vale to Buxton.

A minimal-impact approach will see only trees and vegetation that pose a hazard to a passing train removed, with a focus on vegetation that is encroaching the rollingstock outline. Works will be overseen by an ecologist throughout.

At the completion of the works, the Loop Line will continue to be one of the most significantly vegetated rail corridors in NSW, and the unspoiled vistas of picturesque Australian bushland will be appreciated by travellers for generations to come.

Colo Vale Station restoration works

Works continue to restore Colo Vale Station, with building repairs, repainting and electrical connection works currently underway.

Works to establish the gardens and further improve the landscaping will continue over the coming months. In addition, Transport Heritage NSW is preparing to develop heritage interpretation of the station, underlining its historical significance for visitors.
