Transport Heritage NSW congratulates Sydney Trains on the final timetabled V set passenger service this morning, marking the end of an era for one of the most iconic and enduring train fleets in the history of the New South Wales rail network.

Manufactured in Australia by Comeng between 1970 and 1989, the V sets served generations of passengers across the intercity network, becoming synonymous with long-distance electric rail travel in NSW and playing a pivotal role in the development of modern rail services.

Transport Heritage NSW is currently in discussions with the NSW Government, through Transport for NSW (TfNSW) and the Transport Asset Manager of NSW (TAM), regarding the preservation of one four-car V set for future heritage operations and one V set car for future static display as part of the State Collection.

Transport Heritage NSW manages the State Collection of transport and rail heritage objects on behalf of the NSW Government, including significant items such as the legendary steam locomotive 3801. It welcomes the opportunity to work with the Government to preserve examples of the V set in recognition of its historical, technical and social significance.
