The annual Transport Heritage Expo returned to Central Station over the October long weekend and once again delivered a record-breaking result — with more than 12,800 tickets sold, and thousands more attending to watch, explore and take part in the celebrations across the precinct.
Following the Expo’s double win at this year’s National Trust Heritage Awards, public interest in the event was stronger than ever. A major highlight was the return of the Great Train Race for the first time since 2019, with locomotives 3001 and 3526 running side-by-side through Sydney in a spectacular display of rail history in motion.
This year we had the pleasure of partnering with the Hydro Majestic Hotel to deliver high tea experiences aboard the Southern Aurora.
Beyond rail, the expo featured vintage bus rides around the CBD, steam cruises on Sydney Harbour, tours of Central Clock Tower and Mortuary Station — all operated by passionate volunteers and crews who brought the city’s transport story vividly to life.
Transport Heritage NSW extends its sincere thanks to its valued event partners — Sydney Bus Museum, Sydney Tramway Museum, Sydney Heritage Fleet, Rail Motor Society Paterson, East Coast Heritage Rail and Chumrail, Historic Electric Traction, Hydro Majestic Hotel Blue Mountains, Pacific National and Exponet — and to Transport for NSW and Sydney Trains operations teams for their ongoing support.
A celebration of movement, memory and community, the Transport Heritage Expo continues to grow, inspire and connect generations.
