WHAT WE DO

Transport Heritage NSW is a not-for-profit, member-based organisation focused on delivering in the following four areas.

HERITAGE & COLLECTIONS

We manage a portfolio of primarily rail heritage assets owned by the NSW Government on behalf of Transport for NSW.

OUR FUNDING

While THNSW is a not-for-profit organisation, we're funded by the NSW Government through three annual funding streams to ensure public access and enjoyment, ongoing care of our heritage assets and support for the wider heritage transport sector.

THNSW Funding Streams

OUR SITES & OPERATIONS

THNSW manages and operates from a number of sites throughout NSW, including:​

  • Powerhouse Museum, Ultimo (Head Office)

  • NSW Rail Museum, Thirlmere​

  • Picton — Mittagong Loop Line (attached to the NSW Rail Museum)

  • Valley Heights Locomotive Depot

  • Large Erecting Shop, Eveleigh​

  • Paint Shop, Eveleigh

  • Tank Annex Building, Chullora (Heritage Hub)

  • Chullora Railway Workshops

  • 'The Igloo', Chullora

  • Broadmeadow Locomotive Depot

THNSW also works with a variety of heritage transport organisations to manage a portfolio of residual NSW Government owned rail heritage sites, including:

  • Finley Railway Yard (managed by Finley Pioneer Railway)

  • Cooma Station Yard and part of the Cooma Goods Yard (managed by Cooma Monaro Railway)

  • Tenterfield Railway Yard (managed by Tenterfield Railway Station Preservation Society Inc.)

  • Porters' Room Wagga Wagga Railway Station (managed by Wagga Wagga Rail Heritage Association)

  • Werris Creek Railway Refreshment Room (managed by Liverpool Plains Shire Council and the Australian Railway Monument and Rail Journeys Museum Inc.)
