SUNDAY 21 JULY 2019
Following the retirement of the S-Sets, Transport Heritage NSW in collaboration with Sydney Trains, the Sydney Electric Train Society and Historic Electric Traction will be operating a special combined farewell event on Sunday 21 July.
The morning will see three generations of electric trains travel side by side from Central to Western Sydney and return. Then, in the afternoon, there will be a S-Set farewell tour of the Sydney network.
Enjoy your choice of the morning ‘three generations’ farewell run, the afternoon tour taking in several train lines, or both.

THREE GENERATIONS FAREWELL RUN
CELEBRATING SYDNEY’S NEWEST & OLDEST ELECTRIC TRAINS
Brought to you by Transport Heritage NSW, Sydney Trains and Historic Electric Traction
Experience three generations of electric trains, including Sydney’s 1920s red vintage electric set ‘F1’, a retiring 1970s S-Set and Sydney Trains’ newest Waratah train ‘B24’ – delivered in June 2019, as they travel side by side from Central to Western Sydney and return.
This is a unique opportunity for families and enthusiasts alike to bid farewell to the S-Sets, as they hand over the baton to the next generation of passenger trains in the presence of Sydney’s oldest operating electric train.
Customers can book to travel in either:
-
'F-Set' - a 'red rattler' single-deck heritage electric set from the 1920s.
-
'S-Set' - a retiring double-deck S-Set from the 1970s.
The Waratah train will also operate alongside the above two trains from Central to Strathfield, but will not convey passengers.
